May Race - Rockin' Ronald McDonald 5K

The last thing I wanted to do that morning was run. I wanted to hide under the covers and sleep the morning away. But being the wonderful husband he is, Brian motivated me to get up. Get up, get on your running clothes and shoes and let’s move. He knew I would regret it if I didn’t. I would regret falling short of my goal simply because that morning sleep seemed like the better choice.

So off we went. Brian, Mason and I. We packed up BOB and headed to our May Race. On the way there I told Brian I would rather walk this race and not run. I wasn’t feeling it. I just wanted to finish the race and mark May off my 12 in 12 race calendar.

Our May race was for the Ronald McDonald House. It’s a great charity and being that we both work(ed) at Baptist Hospital, it is something that is near and dear to our hearts. It was the first race they had held so it was a little slow to start. But as soon as the gun went off, we took off. Brian knew what I didn’t know at the time. He knew I wouldn’t just walk the race. He knows me too well and knows I am a competitor at heart. We ended up running the majority of the race and it was one hilly course. But in the end, we finished. And we finished as a family. Crossing the finish line at the same time. It was a great feeling.

I am thankful that Brian made me get out of bed and get moving that morning. Not only because we were able to mark May off our race calendar (5 down7 to go), but because I was able to set a shining example to Mason about leading a healthy lifestyle. And isn’t this what parenthood is all about, setting good examples for our children?

It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning with our little family. Thankfully we have our little buddy back to join us on our races! Even Watson, the house mascot, came out to support everyone!

5 down, 7 to go!!

The List

THE LIST. The never ending list. The list that keeps me up at night. It seems to only grow, instead of shrink.

When we moved into our forever home, we knew there were changes we wanted to make so that it would fit us. Fit our life. Fit our family. We wanted to make it ours. One of the things we loved about the house is that its a blank slant almost. The walls, all of them, were basic builder white. Everything was standard in the house and that meant we could change/upgrade and make it ours.

So in order to get a handle on what we wanted to do, we sat down and made a list. A long list. A list that seemed to never end. But without a list, we would be lost. It keeps us focused. This list helps us reach goals and deadlines. From the simplest thing (IE. Organizing closets) to the more complex things (IE re-do kitchen cabinet and counter tops), we put it all on there.

The way we organized our list was by room. We went room by room and jotted down what we wanted to change in the room or what still need to be done. Each room is a category and listed underneath are the tasks for that room. Perhaps you organize your list differently, but for us, this was the best method. To each their own. There is no right or wrong way. However you brain works, go with it.

Our plan is to share with you as we check the items off the list. Is there any better feeling than getting to cross something off a list? I think not. So join us as we open our home to you and slowly but surely make it our forever home. The home that fits us.

Now tell me, are you a list maker? Or how do you organize your "to-do" list?

The Written Note

To the current owners of our first home:

By now you may have found the note we left for you, but we doubt it. The note was a meant to be a pleasant surprise to future owners. There is not much to it, but just a little information about us, some of our favorite things about the house and hopefully will bring a little smile to your face after reading. Don’t bother looking too closely because it is hidden pretty well, and it would ruin the surprise if you intentionally found it. If you have already found it, I guess we need to a better job of hiding, but still hope that you enjoy the house as much as we did.

We wonder how long it will be before someone finds the note we left. How cool would it be to find a note from the past owners of your home?

Happy Anniversary Traci and Robert!

Most people spend a number of months or years planning and preparing for their wedding.  My sister is an exception to that rule.  Traci never has been one for a lot of frills and lace, but when she was graduating from college 4 years ago, no one really expected her to get married the next day.  That is until a week before the big event.  Despite the short notice, Traci and Robert had a beautiful wedding and recently celebrated their 4 year anniversary.  Congratulations on your first 4 years, and continued good luck in the future together.
Despite this post being a day late, we hope you had a wonderful anniversary and we love you both very much! Oh and thanks for the pictures via facebook, Robert.

Feels like home... Our first home

The minute I saw it I loved it. The minute I stepped foot in the doorway, I knew I was home. After 6 months of exhausting searches, I had finally arrived home. Three years ago, leap year to be exact, I took a leap of faith and signed my name on the line. Three years ago I entered a world I didn’t know anything about. Home ownership. It was foreign to me. But I was ready. I was ready to have a place to call my own. I was ready to do whatever I wanted to a place and not worry about landlords coming after me. I was ready to make a place my home. I was ready to feel like it was home.

She was my prize possession. I poured my heart and soul into making her mine. I was fortunate that she was move-in ready. She had already been updated. She may be small, but she was the perfect size for me and my pup. It was just the two of us. We didn’t need anything bigger. She was perfect to and for us.

I have only shown pictures of the outside of her for the most part on here. But now it’s time. It’s time to show the inside. I want to document this for Mason. One day when I turn our little blog into a book for him, I want me to be able to look back and see his first home. The home he will never remember. Join us on a little tour of our humble abowed....

The minute you walk in the door, after you pass the gorgeous Japanese Maple trees, you enter the living room.

Turn left and walk under the lovely arched doorway and into the small yet intimate dining room.

Pass through the dining room and step foot into the "one butt" kitchen. Yes, it's small. But we cooked many of meals in this kitchen. It served it's purpose.
The door by the stove leads out into the backyard. And there is a door on the otherside of the stove that leads into a half finished half unfinished basement.

Now, had you not turned left at the living room and instead walked straight back, you would have run into what I called "my" bathroom. The shower in "my" bathroom is what sold me on the house. Yes. A shower is the reason I bought the house. Call me crazy but I loved it.

To the left of the bathroom was a guest bedroom. Many of friends and family occupied this room.

To the right of the bathroom is a hallway that leads to Mason's room and our room. The first room you pass on the right is Mason's nursery. Brian spent many long hours painting his room and making it just perfect for our first little son.

The hallway dead ends into our bedroom. The Master Bedroom.

The windows overlooked the backyard, which I loved. The door by the "L" was our walk-in closet. However, it was so small only one person could walk-in at a time. The door to the left of the dresser was a bathroom. I won't even call it a master bathroom because it was so small. Poor Brian. He got the bad end of the deal on the bathrooms.

And that my friends was our first home. Yes, it was small. Yes, it was time to move on. We needed more space. We needed more room to to play and grow. But that doesn't mean we won't always love her. I will miss her. I loved her location. I loved the neighborhood. I loved everything about her. But it was time.

All of these were taken on our last day there. May 1. I day I will always remember.
She was so special to us for some many reasons. I bought her when I was a single woman and I left her as married, mother of 3 (mason and 2 pups ). She (Bellview) was our first home. She was where we spent months putting Masons nursery together so it would be perfect on the day we brought him home. She is where we spent a lot of “firsts” with Mason. First Halloween, First Thanksgiving, First Christmas… etc. The list goes on. I will never forget her and I hope and pray one day Mason will look back at her and smile. For this was our first HOME.

Do you have fond memories of your first home? Or are you pouring your own sweat and love into making your first home just right for you?

First Mother's Day

Unfortunately I wasn't able to spend my first Mother's Day with Brian as he was busy at our new house getting the fence put up for our pups. However, I was able to spend it with the little fella that made me a momma and it was such a wonderful day. We were at my parents house so we enjoyed a brunch with my brother, my sister-in-law and my momma (my dad was out of town). We feasted on breakfast casserole, mixed fruit, donut holes, quiches, mini bagels and of course, mimosas.

We hung out around the house and just enjoyed each others company. Later in the day we went to visit my grandmother and grandfather. Afterwards, we came back to my parents house and I took pictures of our little man.

All in all it was a nice first Mother's Day. Being a mom has made me the happiest girl on earth. I love my little family so much.

Thank you Brian, Mason, Deacon and O'Malley for being so good to me! I love you all!

8 Months

A few weeks late but apparently that's how we roll these days. Trying to stay up to date as much as possible while unpacking an entire house when you have an 8 month old is nearly impossible.

No stats (again) this month. We go back for his 9 month well check on May 31. All I can say is he still loves to eat, is getting heavier and heavier to carry, can stand up on his own for a few seconds, is army crawling with the best of them and has really started to develop his own personality. He also has two bottom teeth....

Our little 5lb 13ozer at birth has certainly changed over these last 8 months...

We love you Mason and thank you for bringing so much joy and happiness into our lives.

First vs. Forever

We are in the midst of moving and unpacking so posting is going to be light this week. But I thought I would show you a comparison of our two houses:

Our First House

And our new forever house:

I love them both for totally different reasons. Stay tune for a more in depth comparison of the houses.
